A shooting incident that took place during the ongoing by-election in the Assin North constituency has been quickly investigated, according to the Ghana Police Service.
According to some National Democratic Congress (NDC) witnesses, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shot at Assin Praso in an effort to scare away voters; the NPP denies this claim.
But just two hours after the incident, the police revealed in a statement that they had detained some suspects who were helping with their inquiries.
Therefore, the police are requesting peace and tranquility.

POLICE UPDATE ON ASSIN-NORTH BY-ELECTION
This morning, voting began in the Assin North Constituency, and it went according to plan in every polling place there.
However, there were isolated occurrences that the police did record, including one when someone is reported to have fired into the air. No one or anything has been shot at within the constituency, we want to make that clear. All incidents that have been reported are being looked into, and police have also detained some suspects who are supporting our investigation.
The constituency has enough police officers deployed to maintain security, law, and order throughout the duration of the election and beyond.
As the election gets to a close, we would want to strongly urge all stakeholders to renew their commitment to cooperating with the Police to guarantee a peaceful election.
