The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), which was established to support the work of Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC), has announced that it will send 13 Stationed Observers (SOs) to 13 voting locations across 12 electoral zones for the Assin North by-elections.
Assin North constituency by-elections will be observed by CODEO as part of its mandate to encourage Ghanaians to actively participate in the electoral process and to support the efforts of Ghana's Electoral Commission in ensuring transparent, free, fair, and peaceful elections, according to a statement. Recruiting and preparing observers.
"On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, CODEO will deploy 13 Stationed Observers (SOs) to 13 polling locations inside of 12 electoral areas that were specifically chosen," the organization continued. On election day, there will be two roaming observers, one of whom will watch the activities at the Collation Center. They will watch how voting is conducted, how ballots are counted, and file reports on any issues they see during the day.
CODEO indicated that it will organize a training workshop for its observers.
"As part of the activities planned for the observation of the by-election in the Assin North Constituency, a training workshop for 15 election-day observers ahead of June 27, 2023. CODEO observers will be taken through the legal framework for elections, the code of conduct for observers, and what to observe at the polling stations," CODEO said. The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) candidate Charles Opoku will compete against the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) candidate Jame.
