Three contractors working on the highly publicized Agenda 111 project of the government's health facility building have been fired.
On Thursday, June 29, 2023, Dr. Nsiah Asare, the presidential advisor on health, made this announcement during a news conference about the status of construction projects in Trede, in the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Nsiah Asare claims that the government's dedication to providing top-notch healthcare facilities demanded swift action against contractors who did not adhere to the necessary standards and fulfill their contractual obligations, leading to the termination of these contracts.
"Three contractors' contracts have been canceled because of non-performance and failing to adhere to the necessary criteria. Dr. Nsiah Asare stated, "We have acted promptly to terminate the contracts of these contractors because, as we have stated, we will not compromise on the quality of these hospitals and the completion dates.
Dr. Nsiah Asare highlighted that the government took this action to ensure the successful completion of the Agenda 111 projects, even if specifics of the cancelled contracts and the companies involved were not made public.
The government's commitment to sustaining strict standards and holding contractors accountable for their performance, according to him, is demonstrated by the termination, he claimed.
Dr. Nsiah Asare provided updates on the project's progress, revealing that 88 of the 111 projects that were planned are currently under way and making outstanding progress.
According to him, the extension and outfitting of a few facilities, including a district hospital and polyclinics in the Western Region, are also expected to be finished by the end of this year.
He stated that a variety of amenities will be provided by the hospitals built as part of the scheme, including cutting-edge operating rooms for maternity, obstetrics and gynecology, male and female, pediatric, and isolation wards, among others. Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals will also have accommodations on the hospital grounds.
This, according to Dr. Nsiah Asare, confirmed the government's dedication to building these facilities. He asserted that the government will not waver in its commitment to building these facilities and that Agenda 111 represents the nation's largest investment in healthcare infrastructure since independence.
In order to close the healthcare deficit in Ghana, the Agenda 111 initiative will build hospitals in 101 exceptional districts in addition to additional regional and specialized hospitals. Modern operating rooms, wards, and lodgings for medical staff will be included in the facilities that are being built, among other crucial aspects.
