The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has been ordered by the National Media Commission (NMC) to issue an unconditional apology to Power FM for airing disparaging remarks against her and the Fulani community in Ghana.
According to the National Media Commission, Power FM's alleged November 1 "perverted and debased broadcast" against the Second Lady is incompatible with efforts to promote national unity.
The NMC denounced the moderator's actions in a statement released on November 6, alleging that they encouraged the commentator to continue making derogatory statements regarding the Second Lady.
In the announcement, NMC instructed Power FM to extend an apology to the Second Lady and provide the Commission with evidence of the apology by November 11.
You let Power FM to be the platform for a gender-based attack against H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in a perverse and debased program that also aimed to incite ethnic strife and disparage the whole Fulani Community in Ghana. In our pursuit of peace, progress, and national solidarity, such behavior has no place.
The phony protestation from your presenter was dishonest and purposefully designed to inflame the critic. Your presentation shifted from being a moderator to an advocate for vulgarity.
