Juju Scare Whirls Around NPP Office in Drobo

Letters from the Bono Region

On Monday, May 22, 2023, residents of Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality in the Bono Region awoke to discover a strange incident at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office.

Beads, red ribbons, two schnapps, cash, and cowries were strewn about the party office's main door in what appeared to be a ceremonial. A headless bird had also been fastened to the office's metal door.

Given that the party's office is out in the open and by the roadway, some locals in the vicinity informed GhanaWeb that they believe the action, which may have spiritual ramifications, was carried out late at night.

"Given the location of the party office, I believe they went there at night to carry out their plan because they could have been clearly observed. I am certain it is a ritual based on the materials I saw, according to Kwabena Badu.

Obeng Takyi, the NPP's constituency secretary, confirmed the event to GhanaWeb. He said he received a call informing him that some items had been dropped at the party office and immediately went to verify it.

He claimed, "I received a call about 7:00 this morning informing me that some items had been put at the party office so I went there to verify for myself.

He called the bluff of these anonymous people whose schemes are meant to keep constituency executives from carrying out their jobs.

"These attempts by such faceless individuals" won't stop us from performing our jobs, he continued. "We are not afraid and we will not be derailed in the discharge of our duties."

At the time GhanaWeb filed this article, checks indicated that the things had been taken out and the office was open for business.

Dispute within the group

For some time now, there have been gaps in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) hierarchy in the Jaman South Constituency.

The party's leadership has made frantic attempts to mend the breaches, but these efforts have so far failed, which is why the party lost the 2020 parliamentary election.
